FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASETuesday, August 22, 2023
AUSTIN, TX – The Texas Sunset Advisory Commission today announced its appointment of Eric Beverly as the legislative agency’s executive director, effective August 28, 2023. Beverly has been a public servant in the state of Texas since 1999, most recently serving as deputy executive director for Licensing Services at the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).
“Eric brings a depth of knowledge and experience, both from within Sunset and from the executive branch, that will greatly benefit the Sunset process and staff,” said Senator Charles Schwertner (R-Georgetown), Chairman of the Sunset Commission. “We are confident he will bring exceptional value to the Commission as executive director.”
With this appointment Beverly returns to Sunset, where he worked as a policy analyst from 2011 until 2016. Since that time, Beverly served as a senior government relations officer, director of the Field Inspections division, and most recently as deputy executive director for Licensing Services at TDLR. Prior to his work at Sunset, Beverly worked at the Texas Department of Rural Affairs handling legislative liaison and governmental relations duties and in the Texas House of Representatives’ Office of House Bill Analysis.
“I am honored and humbled to be selected as executive director by Chairman Schwertner and Vice Chairman Holland,” Beverly said. “I look forward to working with the Sunset Commission, Sunset’s outstanding team, and the state agencies under Sunset review to bring increased efficiency and effectiveness to state operations.”
Beverly succeeds Brian Francis, who has served as Sunset’s acting director since February. “Brian provided tremendous support and leadership to the Sunset staff during the legislative session and the months that followed. On behalf of the staff, I want to sincerely thank him for his service to Sunset and to the state,” Chairman Schwertner said.
Beverly is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin. He and his wife Deborah have been married for 13 years and have one son.
